Inside was the last album put out as Versificator before focusing the bulk of musical efforts of m0dnAr. Despite reusing a bunch for the first m0dnAr album and having a few good leftovers, this might have been my weakest effort because of a couple of songs that I've left off.

It was also a bit of a retreat from the experimentalism of the last two releases, which seem much better than they did at the time in retrospect

Versificator- Notes from the Fridge (2002)

Notes from the Fridge was an album assembled around choice phrases written in magnetic poetry on the fridge at the house where my group of friends all hung out. Though we did customize some words, it was mostly names, hence the "name" tributes here. Some names were chopped off for aesthetic purposes only. It was a period of lots of Warp, IDM, and electronic listening music, though there's some aberration from this (particularly the first track and the last two). Many of these tracks were repeated on m0dnAr's first album, hence the duplication here.

All in all, this still may be the best thing I've ever put out.

A weird way to open the album, for sure. Unlike anything else on the mix. I hada friend who worked at Pizza Hut with me who was really into what he termed "hardcore" rave and techno. It turns out this was a term still being thrown around in Belgium and Holland,but what it was was actually closer to gabber than either of those things. I wanted to pay tribute to this scene, but the track I came up with became rather cerebral and percussive, instead of the amphetamine candy rush of most of the music I'd heard in this genre. It turns out, this does bear some resemblance to tracks by Marc Trauner, specifically his "Symphonies of Steel" by Mescalinium United. With dark techstep-style paranoid samples of 1984, I was tapping into an existing sentiment I didn't even know existed (. The rest of the album was hugely influenced by Warp, IDM, and other listening music genres

The original magnetic poetry was "timh feels vaseline-y", so it got changed a bit. These were all mouth sounds until the very end. take that, matias aguayo

for some reason, this phrase on the fridge always reminded be of Seurat and Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la Grande Jatte. The idea was an idyllic, chilled place...with lots of monkeys.

This was just coincidental fusion, wherein the finale from West Side Story fused well with pieces from Ginsberg's "Howl", assuring the "best minds of our generation" that "there's a place for us" (which is actually from WSS's "Somewhere", also my parents' wedding song).

I forget the criteria that led to this being called "Isopod" (insectoid theme here,what with "Aphid Twix" and all), but it had something to do with how disgusting Rush Limbaugh, heard here, is. His stuttering here has been mixed with the intentional stutter of the Flying Lizards

obviously, this is the infamous "invisible hand" speech from Network, which was absolutely revelatory when I saw it. I fused it to an old MIDI which was originally called "MIDI Eastern" for its eastern tinge.

I was studying notes for a midterm or test or something and I found the lyrics to this song, which don't start until nearly halfway through the song, scribbled in the side of a notepad. I have no recollection of ever writing them. The most automatic of writing.

this is a piss-take on the raving standard "I Can't Stop Raving" made to sound as if this phrase was not euphoric, but nightmarish. Years later, I learned that there was a whole genre of music like this called "darkside"

While all the music previous to this on this blog represents a "third period" of my music writing, involving collaboration with partners, bands, and record labels, this will mark the first release of my "Second Period", that being my first experimentations with computer music. Not music through computers, mind you as I did do some primitive stuff with MIDI and sound recorder cut n pastes prior to this, but music fully made through the computer and nothing else. There is some overlap of material here, as many of these songs were recycled for m0dnAr tunes, but listening to these again there is some interesting stuff within.

To be honest, these early songs were more collage-y then I'd wanted to be. I liked sample-based music, but the ease of construction on these almost seemed like cheating. It wasn't until later when I found out that the process I used was not much different than many of the Moby-ish personalities out there. I guess where I felt I cheated most here was in the rhythm department, blatantly stealing a lick from another big beat song.

Mainly I wanted to see how the Wayne's World sample and Sleepwalk went together

Not particularly proud of the Wesley Willis dialogue at the beginning of this, but it was the final part I added over the "clown music" ("Entry of the Gladiators" by Julius Fucik). "Adrien" had been described in A Very Vari Christmas as Circus Music, so it seemed appropos to make a demented circus out of it. Then there's the "God is Dead" bit from Rosemary's Baby and Paul Whiteman's "Whispering" at the end, which adds a demented but interesting afterthought.

Another rip-off rhythm, I think from an Alec Empire track (who probably sampled it elsewhere). I wanted to make something like an Empire track, extremely hard, fast, and noisy. So, I did that noise thing and crossed a line, trying to make it sound like a thrilling video game ride through a school shooting rampage. Not the only song I'd create to comment on school violence either. It actually fits the model of darkside jungle pretty well, though I wasn't really listening to any of that at the time.

After travelling a spacedelic journey in from the Planet Lunch aboard a Surrealistic Picnic basket travelling at the speed of interstellar overeat, the mysterious band of bearded men orbited the industrial wasteland of the Hudson Valley (which closely resembles fruited plains and fertile crescents on their homeplanet) and the eastern United States for several years, occasionally making stops at an abandonned NASA/NSA spacecraft called "Spacestation 11" to beam down mixed signals of galactic ear candy to the art-terrorist unit FDH Records, who then released the broadcasts for public consumption (though they remained mostly a fetish object for disillusioned loners, slackers, sporto homos, and other members of the permanent underclass).

The band of beardos has been spotted assuming the form of resident musicians at various venues throughout upstate New York and beyond. Autocratic Forcefeed- Wait to Die (2005)

This track was originally be released on a compilation on the Forcefieldsforever label run by Simon Thrasher. To my knowledge, it was never released. It also had a short story that was to be released in a companion book of prose, along with the release. The entire compilation was music inspired by or otherwise about dreams.

Piece inspired by dream in which an abstract and omnipresent spirit guides us through a house with impossible dimensions where the dim lights and coagulated air obscure our vision. The house unfolds into secret passageways and hidden architectural fronts. A Narrator goads us with small clues leading us to each subsequent destination. In the various rooms, we learn a moralistic lesson or are exposed to what is just beyond our eyes. We are guided not necessarily by faith, but by the immutably human need to go further, to discover, to find out where this is going.

When we arrive, the world beyond the entrance explodes in a dazzling array of deceptively golden light. We are still within the house, but the dilapidated walls and rotted wood have transformed into heavily fortified, polished, and painted enclosings, not unlike the interior walls of a museum corridor. We pass by fine art and elegant furniture and the signs of opulence bemuse and delight my fellow travelers, though I remain skeptical of the journey.

The general consensus is that this is heaven and my fellow travelers are quick to jump to this conclusion. Certainly, the spirits moving through us have made our journey seem cataclysmic, but I refuse to let my anticipation give way to rash conclusions. I wait for the evidence to pile in.

We encounter a number of ghosts, who inform us that our suspension of disbelief thus far has served us well, but in order to go even further we will have to kill someone. Someone whose name starts with a K. Kerrigan, possibly?

“Why do we have to kill Kerrigan?” I ask.

“Because we miss the old bastard.” One ghost says, laughing lightheartedly.

“Man, I haven’t seen Kerrigan in forever,” another exclaims.

I wonder why Kerrigan hasn’t joined them in the afterlife yet. After all, though he may not be dead yet in our reality, surely the afterlife does not operate in the same temporal plane of existence as us mortals. I ask the ghosts if this means that Time as a measurement still exists and haunts us after we die. Are we are still bound by the same relativistic chains that constrict us on this mortal coil after we’ve superceded our fleshy shells, I wonder?

The ghosts become confused and appear almost contemptuous of any philosophical inquiry or intellectual debate. It is at this point that I feel like I may have been manipulated. I feel like I might be being led into a trap. Why would I be required to kill in order to get into heaven? Why would enlightened sentient creatures forbid human ponderance, even riddled as it were with the limitations of man’s imagination?

I say nothing further and we proceed.

We continue through the museum corridors into larger spaces, no less cultured or elegant, and begin to see other bodies. Human bodies. Animated, lively, happy, interacting with one another. The faces are flawlessly jubilant. The décor is astounding. The air is fresher. Stepping back into the world of humanity comforts any ills begotten by the frightening memories of what had just transpired. Our final room is a gigantic spherical ballroom with a sunroof and a 360 degree perimeter of windows overlooking a thriving city. The doors to the outside world are open and a gust of wind from the bustling metropolis sails in as we adjust to the warm ambience.

In the ballroom and on the adjacent deck, people are dining, discussing, and dancing, each looking fanciful and dapper.

“Oh my God. This IS heaven!” Chris, who is still dressed in civilian clothes like the rest of us, says.

I begin to believe him as I bask in the spectacle of harmonious being that surrounds us. I overlook the fact that none of these cheerful faces seem to have noticed us, until one starts walking towards us. It is Professor Hanley, whom I instantly recognize as our narrator.

“Sorry for all the spooky stuff back there,” he says.

He explains to us how we will soon see why it was necessary and leads us to a table outside of the ballroom in the crisp, spring air. The travelers and I are slightly perturbed by Hanley’s presence, but follow him anyway. Well, all of us are pertubed except Chris, who, before we could sit down literally grabbed Hanley and proclaimed:
“I don’t ever want to leave. I just can’t wait to die!”

Hanley calms him down and starts to fumble through his justification over the murder of Kerrigan. I begin to lose faith quickly, but Chris is hanging by his every word.

As Hanley stutters, I go along with it, helping him by mentioning Kierkegaard’s theory on the teleological suspension of the ethical. He incorporates my point into his argument and my attention wanders to the tables next to me. Their conversations are too faint to make out and I begin to wonder if they are real. They move with such ease, but are so impenetrable, like a life-size game of The Sims.
I hone in on one couple, watching as they move their lips, play with the umbrellas in their martini glasses, and cross their legs in stereotypical sexual anxiety. The gentleman’s whispers slow down and I drown out everything but his voice. He moves his lips meticulously and precise so that I can make out what he says next, which I am completely unprepared for.

“Please. Get me out of here.”

this was originally a CD released as one longform track broken down into 23 "phases" or chapters, one for each year of my life up to that point and imagining the final to be the year of my death. this is subtitled in some FDH literature as Gabriele's Wake because of the short experimental fiction story of the same name that came inside of each copy of the CD, which was Finnegan's Wake-esque in its use of neologisms and allusion (but perhaps in no other distinguishable way). Most of this work was composed of remixed, scrambled, mashedup version of previously recorded songs that wil probably pop up in some form or another on this Youtube channel.
